The first of the four DQ Week Awards was held in New Delhi for the northern
region, with leading channel partners and vendors attending the event. Two new
award categories were introduced from this year-Best Software Reseller and
Best Media Reseller. This took the total number of award categories for New
Delhi to six. The awards provided the much-needed encouragement to upcountry
locations too.
The much-awaited DQWeek Awards arrived with a gala night at Inter Continental
Eros on July 11 in Delhi. The channel community from across North India converged
to cheer the winners at the seventh awards function of the publicationand raise a
toast to the good times the domestic IT industry is witnessing.
The guests of honor included Neelam Dhawan, MD, Microsoft India, who took
time out and spoke encouraging words tothe channel community. As is thet

with DQ Week Awards, there were less of speeches and more awards. This year the
publication added two new categories-Best Software Reseller and Best Media
Reseller; taking the total number of award categories for Delhi to six.

Also, the Award ceremony in New Delhi, which is now in its seventh year, saw
a couple of hat trick winners this year. The awardees that bagged the award for
the third or fourth time included Tritech of Allahabad, MKG of Agra, Foretek
ofMeerut, Micro bridge of Simla while others like Hari of Jhansi, Jalan of
Gorakhpur, Aadhar of Ghaziabad, Business Automations of Indore, Marquis of
Gwalior and AGM of Jammu won it for the second time in a row.
Pradeep Gupta, MD and Publisher of CyberMedia India Ltd, also gave the
audience another reason to cheer. He recounted the fabulous response that the
CyberMedia IPO met with at the bourses and it certainly was news to those who
did
not invest.
Prasanto K Roy, President & Chief Editor, Business Magazines Group,
CyberMedia Publications took the opportunity tohighlight the good times the
domestic IT industry has entered. He said that the growth is only going to get
better from where we are. The celebration of growth began in right earnest-with
the awards being announced to much applause.
Large turnout of channel community
However, Ashwini Aggarwal, Country Manager, HP India did not
miss the opportunity to take a potshot at Alok Bharadwaj, VP, Canon India right
in the midst of the award ceremony. Good humor, good cheer and the bubbly flowed
in. With the who's who of channel community in attendance, SP Rajguru, Senior
Director, Ingram Microannounced that he has indeed put in his papers at Ingram;
but promised that he will continue to work with the channel community.
With this, the evening was set for swapping info on right
from the state of affairs in the IT industry to who is where. Channel partners
maintained that the biggest challenge they face these days with vendors is
figuring out who is handling their account today, given the people movement and
slow dissemination of related information.
The distinguished guests at the ceremony also included
Moninder Jain, Country Manager, Logitech India; Shailendra Swarup, GM, Xerox;
Alok Bharadwaj, VP, Canon India; Manisha Sood, GM, Kodak India; Vidur
Sehgal,General Manager, Redington India and Shrikant Bapat, VP, Emerson India
among others.
Selecting the right winner
The DQ Week Awards were decided after a panel debate weighing
contenders on parameters including overall reach of the channel partner, service
orientation, long term commitment to business, quantum of business done,
financial strength and expertise in the products he sells among others.
The panelists included Vidur Sehgal, GM, Redington; Sanjay
Mittal, Director, Ingram Micro; Ashwini Aggarwal, Country Manager, HP India and
Shailendra Swarup, GM, Xerox. Xerox sponsored the awards night in association
with Emerson, Unistaland Mora.
For those who could not make it to the evening, here is a
lowdown on the companies that won. Trifin Information Technology bagged the Best
Software Reseller award. The first Best Media Reseller award wentto
International Computer Resources.
The Best Retailer Award was bagged by Computer Land, for the
third time in the last four years and Unique Info way sbagged the runner up award.
The Best System Integrator award went to Team Computers and PC Solutions bagged
the runner up.
In the Reseller category, the runner up award went to
Digitronics Info solutions, while Agmatel India bagged the Best Reseller Award
for Delhi. The Best Sub-Distributor award went to RR Systems, while Micro Max
Technlogies bagged the runner-up award in this category
