When Kamtron diversified into solution space in 2000, Kavita Singhal was the obvious choice for taking charge of its business unit. Armed with a powerhouse of skills, she has been heading the company's management division single-handedly as well as balancing a family life

Kavita Singhal, Director, Kamtron Systems

Job Profile: Singhal has been handling the IT division of Kamtron from its inception. She takes care of licensing software, deploying solutions and human resources training. She has also gained expertise in making sales calls and designing the annual target for the entire team.

Presently, she handles a team of nine people, which is mainly dominated by women. She feels female employees are much more dedicated to their work and that she prefers hiring women for the company.

Kamtron was started as a testing and measuring equipment manufacturing company by Singhal's husband. The software division started in the year 2000, which Singhal heads. She got married in 1992 and ventured into the family business in 2000. Before joining Kamtron, she was working with another IT company.

Background: Having done her schooling from Delhi, she received her BTech degree from Srinagar. She enjoys applying her technical skills in the commercial space. The idea of working with Kamtron emerged after Singhal's son had an accident due to which she had to quit her job to take care of him. After a while, she decided to start working again and it was then that her husband sparked the idea of diversifying Kamtron in the solution space.

Challenges: Singhal has always been interacting with end-customers and she finds meeting new people very interesting. She has always tried to convert challenges into opportunities. “Challenges are a mindset and as such I have never faced any setbacks. However, I believe that being a woman, it is very important to get the support of the family.”

Strengths: Singhal has been optimistic throughout her career. Even when she fails to get a deal, she makes sure to follow up with the clients and continue to take feedback and suggestion. She always believes in putting an honest effort into her work and she does not miss a chance to learn something new, even from her subordinates.

Future plans: Singhal believes in living for today and has not given any thoughts to post retirement plans. She hopes to take the company to new heights with all her efforts. Her biggest dream, however, is to see the entire world.

Hobbies: To realize the globetrotting dream, once in a year, she takes a break from her work for a couple of weeks and goes on a vacation with her family, which consists of her husband and son. This year she is planning to go to the USA. On her weekends, she loves spending time shopping and meeting friends.
