A Ride To Remember

Sunday, May 06, 2007

The rickshaw rides are something that Leigh Costin makes sure he does not miss whenever he visits the country. And like all other visitors it is the rich culture of India that captivates him. He loves to indulge in spicy Indian food and admires the beautiful architecture of the forts and palaces of Rajasthan

DESIGNATION AND COMPANY: Product Marketing Manager—APAC, Blue Coat Systems.

FREQUENCY OF VISITS TO INDIA: There was a time when I used to visit India six times a year. But with the increase in work pressure, this frequency has reduced. After joining Blue Coat, I now hope to revive this and visit the country every quarter.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT INDIA: I am struck by the richness of the country in terms of its diversities. I love the Indian culture as well as the architecture of the Rajasthan forts and palaces that have been turned into resorts and my favorite is Lake Palace. Next on my list is the food here. I am fond of Indian food, which tastes so different from our cuisine. I also just freak out on those pollution free rickshaws as a mode of transport.

WHAT I DISLIKE ABOUT INDIA: Though there are more likes than dislikes attached to this country, I find traveling here the most challenging task. Though the infrastructure has improved in the last three years a lot needs to be done on the commuting front. I must confess that traveling during summers is a nightmare for me due to the heat and dust. It is a sheer waste of time and energy.

WHAT I LOOK FORWARD TO IN INDIA: I cannot expect the climate to change so what I look forward to is a more developed infrastructure. More smooth roads with less traffic.

ONE THING ABOUT INDIA THAT HAS STUCK TO MY MIND: I have found that India has changed significantly in the past three years. The market has matured. And the opportunities here are immense as well.
