Asia Powercom positions new UPS on TCO

The company claims the new product VGD-1000 is as good as free within one year's time when compared to any other local UPS on various parameters.

Friday, June 23, 2006

MUMBAI JUNE 22, 2006 Asia Powercom, a joint venture with Powercom Co., Taiwan, have launched VGD-1000 and pitched the same on Total cost of Ownership (TCO) concept. When compared to a competitive product from a local manufacturer, the VGD-1000 becomes free within a year compared to any local UPS on account of a better input power factor that draws lesser current, resulting in economic consumption. With this the company is also set to target the enterprise segment with the launch of Vanguard Series in the Online UPS segment. Tejas Seth, Director - Asia Powercom, said, "We have been quite strong with the SME segment, and this helps us to make inroads into enterprises with about 200 terminals and more. With a TCO proposition we are confident of gaining customers. Our objective is to focus on the Value for Money proposition and come out with a win-win proposition for the channel and the customer." The company had recently showcased its range of products that demonstrated capabilities of providing quality power solutions for the Indian masses. In the Online UPS segment, the company showcased a range of models starting from 1 KVA and upto 10 KVA and pans to introduce more models in the 15-30 KVA range shortly. Powercom Vanguard series is designed to handle an array of problems like power failures, power sags, power surges, under-voltage electrical line noise, over voltage, frequency variation, switching transient, harmonic distortion. These are ideal for workgroup server, departmental server, enterprise server, WEB server, and workstation. Even when presented with the most severe of these power problems, the Powercom Vanguard series output remains within a remarkable ±2% of nominal voltage. It means that the critical system always receives steady and clean power. In addition, the Powercom Vanguard series transfer to backup mode with no break in power, making it the perfect UPS for equipment in environment plagued by poor power. The Powercom Vanguard series's communications are flexible, allowing for local, network or remote monitoring and management. The Powercom Vanguard includes the latest version of Powercom's UPSMON Software Suite, which provides power monitoring and shutdown software. HOW DOES THE VANGUARD UPS BECOME FREE IN ONE YEAR? Input power factor of VGD UPS systems = 0.98 So, Current drawn from mains in 1 KVA VGD1000 1000/230x0.98 = 4.44 amp Traditional local UPS having 0.7 PF the current drawn = 1000/230x0.7 = 6.21 amp So, more current drawn by local UPS = 6.21-4.44 = 1.77 amp So, excess consumption in a year = 1.77x230x8760/1000 KWH = 3,566 unit So, saving = 3,566x4 (taking Rs. 4 per unit) = Rs. 14,264.00 That means you recover the cost of UPS within 1 year. This saving is double for VGD2000 and so on.
