ESET, a US-based company dealing in anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-spyware, has appointed Russia-based ESS Software Distribution and Consulting as its national distributor in India in order to strengthen its presence in the country and to expand its channel base.

ESET has been present in India for the past four years, directly dealing with resellers. The newly appointed distributor is entering the Indian market for the first time. They aim to strengthen their hold on the market by the end of this year with the support of the channel.

Replying to the query on the number of partners ESET is planning to appoint, Marwan Chanawani, Channel Manager, ESET stated that the company has not yet fixed any particular figure for channel expansion, and it is looking for resellers across the country that have credible presence in the market.

“The appointment of resellers will be entirely managed by the distributor. Till now, the partners were coordinating with us directly for technical or sales issue, but from now onwards, they will interact with ESS for any matter. However, we are always there to provide any kind of support,” commented Chanawani.

ESS Software is looking to appoint resellers in 15 metros and sub-metros in the initial six to eight months. Each city will have five premium partners and 15 partners. Premium partners would be those who have the potential to make business of Rs 2 lakh per quarter, and have dedicated sales and technical team. Partners will fall into the category where resellers will have to touch the sales figures of Rs 40,000 every quarter and should have a technical and sales team. Both the premium partners and partners will have to reconfirm their status for every six months.

While ESET sees Symantec and McAfee as its prime competitor, the company claims that its swift after-sales support and quality-oriented products will enable them to have a leading position within a year's time.

“Till now, ESET was not serious enough for the Indian market, as they were concentrating on other parts of the world. Now they have diverted their attention towards this market and have appointed ESS to evangelize their presence. It was ESS that broke the market of Kapskersky in Russia. The same team will now operate in India,” shared Dmitry Popovich, Business Development Manager, ESS Software Distribution and Consulting.
