Red Hat announced the global availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
Making the announcement, Gery Messer, President, APAC/Japan, Red Hat said,
"The result of a two year endeavor, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 is now
available for mission-critical server deployments and an updated enterprise
desktop for user productivity.
With this advanced platform, customers would be able to greatly reduce the
cost and complexity of purchasing, integrating and managing separate
virtualization, storage management and high availability software.
This helps customers to shift their investment away from costly
infrastructure and back into their business. "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
includes enhancements like additional performance, scalability and security
features, extensive new hardware support, expanded development environment and
toolset, improved interoperability with Microsoft Windows and Unix.
Along with Enterprise version 5, Red Hat announced the availability of three
new solutions, which includes:
- The Red Hat Datacenter Solution, a turnkey platform which helps implement
a datacenter (or migrate an existing datacenter to open source) and includes
advanced platform, systems management, provisioning, high availability, identity
management, consulting and training services. Two versions are available, one
for small and one for large datacenters.
- The Database Availability Solution enables existing data bases (including
Oracle, Sybase, MySQL EnterpriseDB, DB2 and others) to deliver all the
reliability of clustered database systems, at savings of $200,000 or more per
database, compared to the cost of the leading clustered database system.
- The Red Hat High Performance Computing Solution -enables users to solve
difficult computational problems quickly and deliver increased profit and
competitive advantage. The unique feature of the product is that it harnesses
computing power distributed throughout the customer's network, so users can
focus on problem solving, not IT infrastructure.
