Storage major EMC has acquired an Indian company providing enterprise
security solutions for an undisclosed sum. Valyd is a privately held company
based out of Hyderabad.
This is the second acquisition for EMC in India. Four-years-ago the company
had acquired SANWare, a company that dealt with backup and restore software and
storage resource management.
"This is a very historic day for India, as for the first time a MNC is
acquiring a company for its IP. It is an endorsement of India's movement to the
higher rung, as companies are getting into the product development stage,"
said Manoj Chugh, president (India & SAARC), India.
The acquisition will help EMC in the enterprise security space. "All the
surveys point out to one thing, security is the number one concern of all
enterprises. At EMC we are very conscious about this and through our security
division, RSA, we are always trying to allay those security concerns. This
acquisition will help us in the enterprise security space," adds Chugh.
Founded in 1998, Valyd has currently around 50 engineers and they will be a
part of RSA now. "We intend to double the headcount by 2007 and will
support technology from Hyderabad, where Valyd's R&D operations are
located," said Chugh.
EMC intend to rollout two new products based on the acquisition, RSA Database
Security Manager, and RSA File Security Manager. These will be supported from
the Hyderabad center.
Currently EMC has committed an investment of $500 million by 2010, the three
core areas of this investment include R&D, expansion of sales &
marketing operations and growth of if the information infrastructure market in
India. Page(s) 1
