HCL is soon going to implement the Lotus Sametime instant messaging software
in its organization developed by IBM. HCL has invested Rs 60 lakh for the
software and in the next three months, it will be implemented across the centers
in the country. With the availability of this software, employees at HCL at any
center, would be able to chat, e-mail and communicate with each other at any
point of time with complete confidentiality.
According to HCL, the new software would block any data to pass out from the
company, and hence all the information will be confined within.
"It is a very important software to prevent any leakage of information.
There are scores of instant messaging software available in the market but none
of them are secured. Sametime would enable confined chat between people in the
company," said P V Ramadas, Vice President-Technology, HCL.
Speaking on the urgency of implementing the new software, Ramadas further
said, "In an organization, people chat with each other sitting at different
places. They share some valuable and confidential data like financial details or
anything. In any chat, discussions are recorded by a third party and there is no
room for security, the data can be leaked out by anybody. To check such
measures, this kind of software is very useful."
Sametime records the identity of the person and time and place of chat, that
can be later used for any purpose. The software also enables a reliable and
secured video conferencing.
Besides Sametime, IBM is developing another software for HCL that provides
the facility for disaster recovery. The two companies are in the process of
finalizing the project. This software would able to recover any lost data or
information within the organization. Page(s) 1
