HCL Comnet announced the inauguration of a state-of-the art satellite communication network that it has implemented for the Indian army called project Rohini. Lt Gen Davinder Kumar, PVSM, VSM Bar, ADC, Signal Officer in Chief and Senior Colonel Commandant inaugurated this Project.

Project Rohini, one of the largest satellite networks in India, is equipped with providing demand assigned multiple access connectivity for voice, data and video. The network is centrally managed and controlled by a powerful network management system, which helps in exercising control over all remote stations. 

The fielding of this technology intensive, broadband satellite network will not only address the communication requirements but also enhance the robustness and reliability of the communication infrastructure, which the corps of signals has established for the Indian army. The network will have its interconnectivity to other Strategic Networks in order to ensure its optimum utilization.

Kiran Bhagwanani, VP, APAC Sales, HCL Comnet, said, “Project Rohini has been fielded to meet the voice and broadband Data communication requirements of establishments of the Indian Army located in remote areas thus overcoming limitations of terrain and distance.”

“The successful implementation of Project Rohini with its near-unlimited reach by HCL Comnet is yet another step forward to strengthen the communication infrastructure for the Indian Army and is a reiteration of the trust that the company enjoys of India's armed forces, having been their partner in a number of IT and Communication related projects over the years”, he added.
