Pureview Technologies (PT) has begun manufacturing of LCD monitors in
Pondicherry with a capacity of one lakh units in the very first year. According
to Dhananjay Shah, MD of Pureview Technologies, this development has made them
the second company in India to do so.
LG is the only other company, which has an active LCD monitor manufacturing
facility. "Samsung also used to manufacture LCD monitors, but lately it
looks like they are importing mostly," said Dhananjay.
The manufacturing unit of Pureview has been set up on an already existing
manufacturing facility in Pondicherry. However, Dhananjay clarified that except
for hiring the premises, everything else starting from raw material to manpower
belongs to Purview."
What makes this manufacturing facility a unique one is the use of indigenous
raw material to the maximum extends possible. "LCD monitor manufacture
require 61 items as raw material. We are procuring 59 of it locally. The only
two things that we import are the LCD panel and the logic board, making us very
economical in our production," said Dhananjay.
While Pureview's manufacturing unit seemed more like an assembling unit,
Dhananjay explained, "The world-over manufacturing is actually assembling
and we are also doing the same. What is more important is getting the 'gerber
data'. Gerber data is the information on graphics commands, usually describing
how to draw a picture of a circuit. It is the most common format for data
transfer from PCB CAD systems to the manufacturing process."
Commenting on the quality of the products manufactured in this facility,
Dhananjay said, "The technology has come from Japan and our Sri Lankan
counterpart has given enough training to the people manning the facility to
produce world-class products from this plant."
With the manufacturing unit in place, Dhananjay is optimistic about the
company's sales in the coming years. According to him, local manufacturing will
help the company in reducing the lead-time for marketing the product by more
than 60 percent. "This in turn will help the company to increase the
current marketshare from three percent to eight percent," he added.
When asked whether local manufacturing will help them bring down the price of
LCD monitor further, Dhananjay agreed that it does help in reducing the price,
"But a significant drop will purely depend on the volumes that we will
build in the market," added Dhananjay.
