The number of Internet users seeking jobs online in India has increased 71
percent to 6.5 million in 2005-06 from 3.8 million in 2004-05. According to an
Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) study, the number of online job
seekers is expected to cross 9.2 million this year (2006-07).
The study also revealed that the estimated market size of the Indian online
recruitment industry will reach Rs 241 crore for 2006-07, from the current Rs
145 crore in 2005-06. The industry is also likely to maintain a year-on-year
growth in excess of 60 percent.
The study was conducted in collaboration with Crosstab Marketing Services in
January 2006 with a base of 3269 Internet users. India's Internet population
stands at 38.5 million and is expected to touch 100 million by 2007-08. Job
search is one of the top five key online activities that Indians do, the other
four being emailing, surfing, chatting and searching.
Maharashtra topped the list of the online job seekers with 26 percent of the
respondents, followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Among cities, Mumbai and Delhi
topped the list with 17 percent share respectively, followed by Chennai, Kolkata
and Bangalore.
Junior, mid-level and senior executives accounted for more than 50 percent of
