Microsoft Corporation India announced that Rahul Sawhney, Deepak Jagdish, Shreyas Nangi and Mohit Gupta from Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology (DA-IICT), Gandhinagar have won the Indian leg of the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2006.
The winning team won prize money of Rs 1 lakh and will now compete in the world finals of Imagine Cup to be held in held in August 2006 at Agra. Now in its fourth year, Imagine Cup is a global contest held by Microsoft to provide student innovators from across the world a platform to showcase their software development skills.
Over 12,000 students from across India participated in this year's competition, which culminated in the National Finals that took place in Bangalore yesterday. Twelve teams from across the country showcased their software solutions in front an expert panel of judges.
In keeping with this year's theme - 'Imagine a world where technology enables us to live healthier lives', the winning team created a solution 'Sonique' for enabling visually challenged to dynamically move around and perceive their surroundings.
The Navigators, another team from DA-IICT was chosen as the first runners up and won prize money of Rs 75,000. The team comprising Himanshu Pokhariya, Parag Kulkarni, Tanushree Jindal and Vasudhara Kantroo created a solution for helping patients with cerebral palsy navigate to navigate a regular PC and browse the web in an easy manner without having to resort to the use of any specially designed hardware or special (hence limited in availability) software/websites.
Team InternalImaging from NIT, Jamshedpur were adjudged the second runners up and won prize money of Rs 50,000. The team comprising Abhishek Singh and Natarajan S created a novel self-designed integrated hand-held Medical Diagnostic System, which promises to make incredible impact in the world of Medical Imaging.
