Pune

Pune-based Computer and Media Dealers Association (CMDA) is targeting the one customer segment, which has been largely ignored by most vendors. And that is of senior citizens.

The association will set up a stall at its upcoming expo, where senior citizens will be taught how the surf the Internet.

Speaking about this initiative, Sunil Gugale, Spokesperson, CMDA, said, “Actually, we have several senior citizens in Pune, whose siblings stay abroad. So, it will be beneficial for them if they know to write emails and keep in touch with their children.” He added, “We have noticed that due to the age factor, elderly people are hesitant to go to computer classes. So, the stall, which we are arranging for them will be of great help to them.”

Last year, CMDA had organized a similar stall for senior citizens. When asked about success of the last year's stalls, Gugale said, “We started with this type of stall last year on a trial basis. But since we got an overwhelming response last year, we decided to have a similar stall, though a bigger one, this year as well.”

CMDA has managed to get Jayant Patil, State Finance Minister, Maharashtra to inaugurate the expo. 80% of the expo stalls have already been booked and several major vendors have confirmed their participation. This has raised the expectations of the association, which is going great guns to promote the event and ensure good footfalls. And as an USP, Netgear will make the entire venue a WiFi zone.
