Counterfeiting is no longer just associated with segments like apparel or the FMCG industry. Electronic equipment and products like toner cartridges are fast becoming mainstream for being counterfeited by culprits. Even after incorporating different methods to stop counterfeiting, the isue still appears big in the industry.
Speaking at the launch of HP's new range of Photosmart 8758 printers in the market, Ravi
Aggarwal, Vice President, Imaging and Printing Group, HP said, “We have taken a lot of precautions to make sure that our products are not that easy to counterfeit. We have a special hologram on all the toners. Counterfeiting of products like cartridges is a serious issue and we will work with the industry to address this issue in a better way.”
Commenting on the new printer he added, “This is the world's first nine - ink photo printer for the professional segment. Traditionally, photo printers have only eight inks, but the PS 8758has an extra colour - blue - which ensures that photographs are richer and more vivid, making this printer the best possible option for commercial photographers.”
In order to address this issue of counterfeiting – Indian organisations like MAIT and Nasscom are already working closely with the industry. With companies like HP, 3Com, and Cisco continouesly facing the counterfeiting problems on the global front - the Alliance for Gray Market and Counterfeit Abatement, or AGMA is working towards helping these companies towards addressing this problem on a global scale.
