UGS strengthens Indian R&D focus

As part of this renewed focus, the company would increase its headcount at its Indian R&D locations and start its global services deliver center at Pune

Thursday, September 01, 2005

Leveraging on the high availability of IT talent in India, global product lifecycle management (PLM) services and software provider-UGS Corp is increasing its focus towards its existing R&D capabilities in Pune. Working with a two-pronged strategy, the company would be increasing the headcount at its Pune facility.

Additionally, it would also be setting up a PLM implementation center at its Pune facility to service offshore clients. "India is an exciting place to be, especially with the kind of software work that is happening in this country. We have close to 600 people between our Pune and Hyderabad operations. This would increase by 25% to 30% as we move forward. In addition to this growth, we would add new capabilities for services delivery aimed at complimenting the existing operations,” informed, Jim Milton, Executive VP, Global Sales and Services at UGS.

This global services delivery center would be co-located with the company's R&D facility in Pune and have about 12 engineers to start with initially. “This is perhaps the first of UGS' PLM implementation centers worldwide, where offshore servicing would be carried out from a center. Normally, our centers located in different countries focus towards servicing within those particular countries only," he added. Speaking about its existing partnerships with Indian software companies like TCS–Jim said that the services delivery model will further enhance UGS's commitment to the overall Indian region and the company would continue to work closely with its partners in the region.
