GrapeCity India's software makes it big overseas

The 'Talking Phrasebooks' software clinched the US Handango Champion Award for Best Industry Application for the Pocket PC, 2005 and is targeted for individuals on the move

Friday, July 08, 2005

Talking Phrasebooks'-a software by GrapeCity India has bagged the US Handango Champion Award for Best Industry Application for the Pocket PC for 2005. It is designed for those on the move-business travelers, tourists, and students who constantly go to countries where the native language is not English.

Talking Phrasebooks is a mobile application that can be downloaded onto a PDA. It contains over 2,000 essential phrases and terms in both English and the native language (French, German, Italian and Spanish) when all optional add-on modules are installed. It also finds all entries in either language that contain the words or characters one is searching for, and instantly shows the translation of any chosen English phrase in the native language or vice versa.

One click and you can hear the translation out loud in a clear native voice. It also repeats the pronunciation automatically according to your preferences, to aid practice and memorization. You can also save selected phrases in a personal Bookmarks category. In Quiz mode, it lets you test your knowledge with flashcards and tracks your progress over time.

Speaking on the Award, Ashoke Ghosh, President, Delivery Services, GrapeCity India said, “The Indian software industry has been leaving its mark across the world. This award is a recognition of our efforts and the hard work put in by the mobile application development team in India.”

US-based MobiLearn, Inc needed the technical expertise to take this new mobile concept through development and rollout, and turned to GrapeCity for help. GrapeCity worked closely with MobiLearn to understand the product requirements from a user's perspective and helped in overcoming the technical limitations of the software platform.

The Indian company then rolled out new versions of the product after extensive research, and incorporated several new features that include multilingual capability, auto play and interactive quiz as an easy-to-use language-learning tool. Five add-on modules, each available independently, offer additional text and audio capabilities.
