In a recent theft in Jalandhar, a group of burglars broke into the showroom
of Computer Associate and stole eight laptops and hard drives worth Rs 12 lakh.
According to Saurabh Walia, CEO, Computer Associate, this is the same group
that ransacked his showroom three months back. They were unable to steal
anything back then as the showroom was protected with security systems and it
raised an alarm as soon as they tried to fiddle with the shutter.
“This time they were aware of the installed security systems that immediately
raises an alarm if anybody tampers with the shutter of the store. Therefore,
they avoided getting into the store by breaking the shutter and instead they
drilled the wall from the back and entered the shop. However, my store is also
installed with motion alarm and it set off an alert on my phone at 4:30pm,”
stated Walia.
The burglars attacked the store at around 4pm on April 13, when the market
was closed, and it took around 30 minutes for them to finally enter the
showroom.
“When we reached the spot, everything seemed to be ok. The shutters were
untouched and one could not make out the activities that had taken place at the
back. When we opened the store, we found that everything was scattered and many
laptops were missing,” informed Walia.
The burglars also took away an ICICI Bank cheque worth Rs 5,000 from the
shop. One of the thieves was later caught by the police. “When we found that a
cheque is missing, we informed the police who then informed the local bank
executives. When the person went to the bank to deposit the cheque, he was
immediately nabbed and police are now interrogating him,” shared Walia.
Walia identified the person as one of his own customers who had been visiting
the showroom for the last several days on pretext of service or other enquiries
for the recently purchased laptop.
The accused was caught with multiple fake documents that include driving
licenses, ATM cards and pan cards that carried his pictures but with different
