Even after the clear policy of Kerala government on VAT, the confusion and fear of harassment from sales tax officials is still haunting the Kerala traders. After the VAT confusion, dealers in the state are worried over the idea of tax billing on MRP for all computer products. “This tax is implemented in the state on all other products. If tax on the MRP is brought into effect, then the end customers wont be interested in getting the products from the dealers,” said Jolly, CEO, Jaycees Computers. He felt that this move would also entertain the freelancers. According to Jolly, “When the customers are asked to pay tax on some huge MRP, then generally they go to the freelancers who usually do not bill their sales.”

The traders assert that the government is putting more pressure on the sales tax department for collecting revenue through taxes, and they in turn try to enforce certain rules, which cannot be followed.
