Redington to open repair centers for LCDs

Tuesday, February 20, 2007

Redington India will be opening service and repair centers for LCDs in India. Disclosing this on the sidelines of the company's IPO announcement in Delhi, R Srinivasan, MD, Redington India, said that the company would be establishing four service and repair centers (SRCs), in the metros-Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai.

“The LCD panel repair market is estimated at Rs 51.2 million and we would be the first company to start this kind of a SRC,” he said, adding that in the next three to six months Redington would spread its wings to the B and C-class cities. Redington would be investing Rs 3 crore in this venture. Srinivasan informed that Redington had tied-up with CMO and Hannstar, the two major companies, both based out of Taiwan, for sourcing the LCD panels. “We have already placed the orders and the shipping of the panels would begin in the next three months,” he added.

The new venture by Redington India is to be handled as a neutral service provider for all LCD monitor and TV manufacturers and the company aims to scale up its operations in the next six to eight months. The SRCs would be on the same lines of the Intel warranty centers, which the company started a few years back.
