Lenovo to hit a century in retail by March '07

Sunday, January 21, 2007

Lenovo has announced plans to expand its current base of exclusive retail outlets across the country. “Currently we have 60 exclusive Lenovo retail outlets all over India and by March 2007 we will have 100 exclusive retail outlets,” said Neeraj Sharma, MD, Lenovo, South Asia.

According to Sharma, India and China are at the forefront in driving the markets of the emerging economy in the new PC segment. They share major chunk of the 54 percent growth potential of new PC segment in emerging markets.

Lenovo sees huge potential in the consumer segment and hence is focused on the retail format to cash in on this opportunity. At the same time they are aware of the disadvantages of over distribution. “We will definitely surge our figures in the metros to almost double but at the same time we will avoid over distribution,” informed Sharma.

Commenting on the online sales model, Deepak Advani, Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer, Lenovo said, “We have online sales models in few countries but in a country like India, where the market is so huge, untapped online sales may take off in the future but right now we are not focusing on that mode.”
