Eastern India's largest IT exhibition-Compass 2006, organized by the Computer Association of Eastern India (Compass) at the Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata from Nov 17 to 20, proved to be one of the most successful shows of this annual event. The 11th chapter of the mega IT event was organized this time on a much larger scale in terms of both participation and arrangement. “We got very good feedback from the users and other visitors as well as the participants. Everyone was extremely happy with the entire arrangement,” said KL Lalani, President, Compass.
The annual exhibition is gradually emerging as one of the most powerful IT events, not only in eastern region but in the country as well. In fact, Dr Debesh Das, Minister-Department of Information Technology, Government of West Bengal, who inaugurated the event, compared it with other overseas exhibition.

Compass 2006 showcased the latest technology products in IT hardware by leading MNC and local brands and was a platform catering to the needs of consumers, manufacturers, service providers as well as traders. It provided a sneak preview of the upcoming products and services by several leading brands slated to hit the market. Companies like Techcom, Zebronics, Perx etc launched many new products. Also new brands like Videocon PC and Amconics got a chance to showcase their range of products.

This year the exhibition saw participation from over 75 participants. There were about 100 stalls and 20 pavilions spread across 1,160 sq mt of covered area. “The demand was very high this time and it was a tough job to accommodate everyone,” said Pawan Jajodia, Chairman, Compass Exhibition Committee. “There was a requirement of at least 5,000 sq mt of space to house the exhibition,” he added.

“The highlight of the exhibition has been that for the first time in its history 22 OEMs directly participated in the expo. This is the highest direct participation so far. It indicates the growing prowess of the local IT industry as well as the growing importance of the exhibition,” informed Lalani.

“I have never seen such a high level of team spirit in the entire history of Compass. The sincerity and passion with which each member has delivered their job is amazing. I am very happy that this wonderful effort has made Compass 2006 achieve new height altogether,” said Lalani. The four-day mega event saw a participation of about one-lakh visitors and is expected to have generated direct business worth over Rs 150 crore.
