Bangalore-based communications start-up Innoviti has started looking for distributors to sell Vaayu, a wirefree device for Internet access. Currently, the company has piloted its product on Baazee.com, and will be initiating talks with notebook vendors as well as partners focusing on laptops and laptop accessories. "We would like to have one or two partners who offer focused approach on selling this innovative product," says Rajeev Agrawal, CEO, Innoviti. He also adds that it would be ideal for notebook OEMs to bundle this product.

Vaayu is currently priced at Rs 4,200 for the end-users and requires no software drivers to be installed. The device also claims to be the world's first wireless adapter for dial-up modems. However, the makers of this device are quick to point out that Vaayu is in no way an alternative to WiFi. "This product is very complimentary in nature to WiFi devices. Vaayu offers wireless connectivity where WiFi is not available and a normal dial-up connection through the existing telephone line is the only mode to access the Internet," explained Rajeev. He also added that WiFi adoption in India will still take sometime to mature and that wireless access through dial-up will prove to be far more economical. Vaayu uses NanoRF and ALE technologies, both of which has been patented by Innoviti.

The company is also working on another product called Mita-a wireless mobile phone extension device and plans to commercially launch it over the next six months.
