In line with its digital home vision - chipmaker Intel has unveiled a slew
of products that would enable home users to fully utilize the power of broadband and wireless connectivity.
Newly launched products include three Intel express chipsets - 915P &
915G targeted at the mainstream users and 925X targeted towards the gaming segment. These new chipsets are coupled with the latest Pentium 4
processors supporting hyper-threading technology 5xx sequence.
"Our digital home vision involves a combination of wireless technologies and broadband connectivity. We are trying to make the PC experience more
entertaining and productive for the users. These technological advancements pave the way for emerging capabilities as high definition (HD) video,
7.1 surround sound and file protection for office and home users," informed Intel India president Ketan
Sampat.
The new platforms support other new audio capabilities, such as the ability to use a simple software setting to turn all the
output jacks on a PC into a headphone jacks so that several users can listen simultaneously from
the same PC in a quite environment. The company has also introduced its Wireless Connect technology - which
enables consumers to set up and configure a wireless home network in four steps. "We are trying to make it as simple as possible. This feature
allows
for easier sharing of digital videos, photos and music in and around the wirelessly networked home of office. It also allows
multiple-wireless enabled PCs to share one Internet connection or printer," said GM -technical support at Intel Asia Rajesh Gupta.
Talking about the pricing and availability of these products, director (S. Asia) sales & marketing group for Intel RK Amar Babu informed that all
these products are available with Intel's partners in the country. "Wipro has just announced the availability of SuperGenius 900 series of
desktops which is powered by Intel 915G express chipset. So the products are
already being made available through our set of partners. PCs coming with these products would cost between Rs 30,000 to Rs 45,000," he added.
Though, India continues to be on the lower side in terms of broadband connectivity, however it is interesting to note that Intel's
vision of digital home hinging on wireless connectivity and broadband is supported by
the current governments commitment towards increasing the broadband reach in the country.
