Structured cabling major Tyco Electronics is preparing the ground for its partners to tap the business potential that exists in
the 10 GigaBit Ethernet technology. Tyco is one of the first companies in the country
to introduce this for shielded twisted pair (STP). And with a view to keep partners ready for this upcoming technology, the company is organizing
a series of technical seminars across the country. The first one was held in
Bangalore, followed by Kochi and Chennai.
In the second phase of this series--likely to happen in August--the company would target the network integrators in cities of
Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. "10G in near future would replace 1G and the adoption would
trigger a massive fall in price for the same, making it the most cost-effective solution," says KK Shetty, Country Manager, Tyco
Electronics India.
Speaking on the objective of such events, he further adds that these kinds of technology session help its partners become
aware of what technologies can they expect to work with in the near future and hence rightly plan
in that direction from now on.
The company is betting on rapid advances in micro electronics and networking technologies to fuel the demand for 10G
Ethernet-based cabling solutions. The company is also evangelizing the need to be careful while
future-planning on cabling solutions among partners.
Interestingly, Tyco's competition like Krone and Systimax (previously Avaya Connectivity Solutions) are also aggressively evangelizing on the 10G
Ethernet. In fact, Krone claims to be the first company to offer this technology for unshielded twisted pair (UTP). Clearly, the days ahead
may belong to the 10 GigaBit speeds, what remains to be seen is how the vendors can drive the adoption for the same.
