Greenplum is all set to appoint a host of SIs and reseller partners across
the country, even as it eyes India's data warehouse business
What is Greenplum's roadmap for India?
Greenplum is six years old and was established in the US to develop a new
disruptive technology in the area of large-scale data warehousing analytics. A
lot of companies have huge amounts of data which they need to store into their
data warehouse and analyze it. Until Greenplum came along, there have been two
ways to do that-one is on a traditional data base platform. However, they are
designed for transaction processing and not large-scale data management and
analysis. The other way is using large-scale data warehousing appliances done in
a proprietary mainframe environment. It works well but is expensive and not very
flexible. Hence, at Greenplum, we have designed our software in a manner that it
can deliver the capability of both ways in a more cost-effective manner. Having
engineered technology around enterprise data cloud solutions for large-scale
data warehousing and analytics, we are now eying the India market aggressively.

Please elaborate on your growth strategies.
While in 2008 we focused on setting up a technical team in India, in 2009,
Greenplum has extensive plans to set-up its marketing team. We are aiming at
having a direct presence in India and will be appointing a host of system
integrator and reseller partners in the country.
We have over 100 customers worldwide, including the NYSE, Nasdaq and Ebay. In
India, Reliance Communications is our biggest customer. We have Nokia Siemens in
Chennai and Future Groups as our customers too. Last year, we built the
technical sales team and this year we are building a sales and marketing team.
How can your partners leverage on this opportunity?
The new Greenplum technology gives the customers in India a chance to do
many things that they have not been able to do. Hence, there is a fair amount of
demand that is created for this kind of high-scale, low-cost data warehousing.
This is further leading to a lot of demand for building the data warehouse
applications, that again gives the partners an opportunity to provide the
required solutions to their customers. The partners can take our product and
deliver the customized solution to their customers. These partners have the
domain expertise in the customers business domain and knowledge of business
processes, and hence can generate a lot of revenue through services.
