Sonic Wall, which deals in comprehensive Internet security
solutions, announced that it holds the leadership position in the Unified Threat
Management (UTM) security appliances worldwide in the first quarter of 2005.
This is in for both unit shipments and factory revenue, according to results
recently released by IDC in its Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker,
June 2005.
In a buoyant market that showed UTM security appliance
revenue growth of over 123% and unit shipment growth of almost190% compared to
the first quarter of 2004, SonicWall was singled out as the leading vendor in
the UTM category, following its first full quarter as a UTM vendor.
"These results underscore the growing popularity of UTM
as the most effective solution to a worldwide problem," said Antony Chapman,
Senior Director-APAC, Sonic Wall. IDC defines UTM security appliance products as
those which integrate multiple security features including network fire walling,
network intrusion detection and prevention, and gate way anti-virus within one
box. Sonic Wall integrated unified threat management capabilities across its
entire productline at the end of 2004
