Avnet Electronics Marketing, the largest operating group of Avnet, stole the show at this year's China Digital Consumer Electronics Components Technology Symposium and Exhibition in Shanghai, with a 220 square metre "home of the future" booth.

Designed to showcase prototypes the company has designed, developed and produced in a fraction of the design-to-production time it would take an electronics manufacturer, the booth was "living" proof that Avnet Electronics Marketing has a unique, core strength as a one-stop solution service provider.

The digital "home" included more than 30 products - from audio and video applications to wireless local area networks and home control systems.

"Avnet is the first global distributor to adopt this strategy," said Tony Mui, VP of technology, Asia Pacific, Avnet Electronics Marketing Asia.

"We offer one-stop system design solutions, focussed on specific areas that can help manufacturers slash the concept-to-production-cycle anywhere from a year to three months. We have been able to adopt this unique approach because we operate four design centres in Asia Pacific, and we have ties to more than 30 independent design houses in Asia including China."

Avnet Electronics Marketing showcased products and solutions in five categories:

  • Home control systems including wireless lighting, temperature controls and power meters.
  • Audio and video including DVDs, DVD RW, digital broadcasting, rear-projection television and plasma and large screen LCD TV.
  • Broadband networking and communications including VoIP and video telephones, set-top boxes and Internet television.
  • Wireless communications including low-power wireless LANs, and applications that highlight the use of standards and protocols including Bluetooth, Ultra Wide Band, SIP and H.323.
  • Automotive electronics including both safety related car body electronics and in-car entertainment systems.
