IT Infrastructure And Media Distribution On Aten's Radar

Wednesday, July 01, 2009

Aten is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. With the vision of 'Leading the Future', there were various new generation products first shown at Computex 2009. The main focus of the company was on the centralized IT infrastructure management solution and media distribution solution.

Under the centralized IT infrastructure management solution, Aten offered a complete web-enabled solution for convenient, economical, centralized remote access and management of all IT devices in multiple data centers and distributed remote offices. The solution combines ALTUSEN Control Center Over the NET management software with KVM Over the NET, Power Over the NET and Serial Over the NET devices.

Centralized IT infrastructure management solution has KN4140v, 40-Port KVM Over the NET and CC2000, Control Center Over the NET within it.

KN4140v, 40-Port KVM Over the NET is a Cat 5 KVM switch with Over-IP functionality that supports up to five bus sessions allowing one local and four remote administrators to simultaneously access separate ports via LAN, WAN or the Internet. The KN4140v provides dual power support allowing continuous access of the switch when a power supply or power line shuts down. The device also offers Dual NICs (network interface cards) for redundant LAN or two-IP operation. The virtual media support allows administrator to map CD-ROMs and other storage media to a remote server, and conduct file transfers, application and OS patches, and CD-ROM diagnostics remotely.

CC2000, Control Center Over the NET is the next generation of Aten's software-based solution for secured and centralized access, administration and management of the entire IT infrastructure in multiple data centres, branch offices and remote locations. With the CC2000, IT administrators can effectively consolidate all Over the NET or other IP-based IT devices through a single IP address, and even link multiple CC2000 units to create an integrated network of devices.

The other focus of Aten in Computex was the media distribution solution. This end-to-end digital signage/visual information system efficiently transmits high-quality audio and video content over Cat 5 cable to multiple displays from a single input source in real time. The solution consists of the VS1504 / VS1508, 4/8-Port Cat 5 audio/video splitter and the VB552 VGA Over Cat 5 repeater + audio. When combined with Aten repeaters in a three-level cascade installation, the splitter can support thousands of displays located up to 450m from the source while maintaining an excellent video and audio quality. The media distribution solution provides screen controls at the remote sites, and features two serial RS-232 channels, allowing for fully interactive digital installations using touch-screens.

Aten aims to further extend its reach to the applied video market by launching more advanced video products. Aten claims that the media distribution solution is a cost-effective way to send high-quality audio and video content over Cat 5 cable to multiple displays from a single input source.

Aten also showcased its other latest launches like New Matrix KVM solution and new series of Altusen KVM over the NET switches-KN4140v, KN4124v and KN2124v.

New Matrix KVM solution KM0932, KM0532, 9 and 5-console, 32-port matrix KVM switches, are the newest Cat 5 Matrix KVM switches that allow 9 and 5 consoles to independently and simultaneously control up to 32 directly connected servers. These two solutions provide dual power support allowing continuous access of the switch when one of the power supplies shuts down. The virtual media support in these solutions allows administrators to conduct file transfers, application and OS patches, and CD-ROM diagnostics on the servers remotely. The Cat 5 cabling simplifies cable management and reduces space requirements in the server room.

On the other hand, the Altusen KVM solutions allow one local and up to four remote operators to monitor and control up to 40 servers on a single level or control up to 640 servers in a two level cascade. In addition, they offer out-of-band access, including external modem support for BIOS-level troubleshooting when the network is down.
