Hyderabad-based M Ventakeshwar’s ingenuity to divide his business into seven core groups to provide a clear focus brought him easy success.

Established as one among the leading channel part ners in Andhra Pradesh, SV Electronics is testimony to the grit and determination of its proprietor, M Ventakeshwar Rao. Starting a company with just Rs 35,000 in 1984 and growing it to Rs 40 crore in 2001 is no small feat. And his mettle was tested, when revenues started declining in 2002.

But Ventakeshwar stuck to his policy of providing customers with quality products at reasonable prices and a good post-sale support system. He also decided to create core groups focusing on different business segments.

BORN INTO IT
Ventakeshwar started his business in 1984 by dealing in electronic components and posted revenues worth Rs 3 lakh within three years. He soon realized that IT promised to be the next big thing and started an IT division in 1991.

Soon after, he started VSL International - which imported Epson’s mini-printers.

One of Ventakeshwar’s strengths is feeling the pulse of the market. He realized that systems integration offered tremendous scope in Andhra Pradesh (AP) and soon got into this business as well, with his own brand—Savvy.

GROWTH TRAJECTORY
Ventakeshwar’s vision for the future is clear. "We want to be #1 IT player in AP within the next one year. For this we will continue expanding our business in Southern India to reinforce our Savvy brand," he says.

Currently, the business is split between five locations in Hyderabad and one in Vizag.

ALL IN THE FAMILY
Venkakeshwar’s four nephews take care of the day-to-day business, while he concentrates on purchase, finance, service, big accounts and expansion plans.

Besides service, the other USP of Ventakeshwar’s company is its strict financial processes. He takes pride in the fact that SV Electronics does not undercut or give discounts, irrespective of how lucrative it is. "Bottomline growth is a must to survive and expand. And it can’t be compromised for short-term gains," he said.

With such clear-cut policies and a strong service setup, SV Electronics is all set to become a state-level contender for the best IT player. This is Ventakeshwar’s dream, which he is sure of bringing to reality.
