Chennai-based Gemini Communication registered a growth of 18 percent for FY'08-09, a big decline, compared to 40.5 percent growth in FY'07-08. During the first quarter of last fiscal, when recession effect was far away, the company had anticipated 50 percent growth for FY'09 over FY'08. North, buoyed by government orders, contributed 22 percent to revenue, while South's contribution was 36 percent. The company garnered 19 percent of the total revenue from international markets.

The IT/ITeS and government, which remain the key focal areas for the company, contributed about 40 percent each to the total revenue in FY'09. During the year, the company launched a branch in Gujarat and trained 10 executives to offer IT consultancy services. In addition to Veeras Infotek, a Chennai-based security and availability solution provider, Gemini also acquired a majority stake in privately held Sanat Technologies, a Chennai-based unified storage solutions provider.

In first quarter of last fiscal, the company held project commemoration meeting for the completion of BEST (Billing for Essential Services in TNEB) scheme. The second-phase BEST project, which was worth Rs 75 crore, was to computerize 1,725 collection centers across Tamilnadu. The earlier phase of the project brought in revenue worth Rs 50 crore.

During the fourth quarter of last fiscal, Gemini secured an order from Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL), for supply, implementation and maintenance of Rural Mobile WiMax in the telecom circles of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Chennai, Tamilnadu and Orissa. The first phase of the project is estimated at Rs 67 crore.
