Savex Computers : Step By Step

Having invested in an ERP implementation Savex Computers spotted the inefficiencies in its processes and took corrective steps to post a healthy 49 percent growth

Thursday, September 18, 2008

Savex Computers posted a turnover of Rs 686 crore in FY 2007-08, up 49 percent from the previous fiscal's Rs 459 crore. But it fell short of the growth rate in 2006-07, which stood at 55 percent.

The biggest boost that the company received last fiscal was the addition of HP's commercial systems and accessories to its product portfolio. The company was already an existing distributor of HP's Presario notebooks.

Besides this, it was also appointed as the national distributor for Samsung, which gave a fillip to its revenues courtesy the sales of its LCD and TFT monitors. Its storage business grew by around 45 percent.

Like other national distributors, Savex too had the large format retailers to thank as it contributed four percent to its business, which is not bad for a new vertical. The company tied up with Ezone, Chroma, and Reliance, to cater to their needs for HP notebooks, Samsung monitors and Logitech peripherals.

Highlights

  • Opened eight new branches
  • Started distribution of HP's commercial line of products

Although this distributor is based out of West, its maximum business came from South which contributed 32 percent to the overall turnover. West and North contributed 30 percent each, while East remained a slow moving market. This was why Savex opened branches in this region to tap the potential of the eastern market. The company also increased its manpower strength by 25 percent and currently has 223 people on its rolls. Most of the new recruits were in the sales team. It also invested in an ERP implementation following which the company examined its organizational workflow and conducted a time-cost-delivery performance analysis. After spotting some inefficiencies in its processes, corrective steps were taken to reduce its turnaround time and cost.

SILVER CLUB RANK (2006-07): 9

What Savex lacks is a larger number of vendors in its kitty, which it is trying to change by talking to more manufacturers for national distribution alliances. It is especially focusing on adding a leading printer and networking brand to its product bouquet.
