20.Caltron :Reinventing For Growth

Though Caltron did not maintain the scorching growth it had registered in 2005-06, it is working on new strategies to mark its position

Kolkata-based Caltron had registered over 100 percent growth in 2005-06, but its growth in the last fiscal slowed down tremendously. Despite this, the company kept its wits around it and focused on only two companies-HP and Lenovo.

Nevertheless the slowdown prompted the company to start thinking of  ways to reinvent itself. It started its operations in Guwahati, which helped it to grab a substantial marketshare in the northeast. It also opened its branch office in Siliguri. The company already had branch offices in Ranchi, New Delhi, Jamshedpur and Patna.

To further strengthen its position as a leading regional distributor, Caltron tied up with Fuji to distribute its range of digital cameras across eastern India. Another alliance it entered was with LG as a sub-distributor for the eastern India.

The company has planned to further consolidate its distribution business and establish itself as a regional distributor, rather than just a sub-distributor. To realize this, Caltron intends to add few more brands in its kitty. It already boasts of a channel network of 600 dealers.

The company registered a slow start last fiscal clocking Rs 24 crore in AMJ, steadily growing it to Rs 26 crore in JAS, before registering Rs 33 crore and 37 crore in the next two quarters.

East contributes 85 percent of its overall revenue with the northern region pitching in for the remainder. Caltron has no plans yet enter the western and the southern markets. The company has set a target to achieve 40 percent growth for the current fiscal.
