1.Ingram Micro India:Numero Uno Once Again

Though the Ingram Micro-Tech Pacific merger took place over a year and half ago, it has still not got the official stamp from the governmental agencies. But this has in no way stopped the company from growing

Ingram Micro has once more monopolized the top slot at the DQ Channels Silver Club at the numero uno slot. Though it continued its stint at the top, its growth rate wasn't too good, considering it was a forerunner, and it did not fare as well when compared to other companies in the Silver Club.

Ingram Micro posted a total turnover of Rs 6,896 crore in 2006-07, of which 12 percent is estimated to have come from its mobility business and therefore was discounted from the agency revenues considered in this listing. This brought its agency revenues to rest Rs 6,068 crore.

The merger between Ingram and Tech PacifOnce Again ic, which took place over two years ago, has still not got the legal nod from the Bangalore court. A case filed by Samsung claiming that the merger affected the business interests is also pending in the court. Nonetheless, the company is currently doing business with Samsung and is operating under the aegis of Ingram Micro.

It is interesting to note that the distribution powerhouse managed to continue adding brands, which helped it further in value business, rather than focusing merely on the volume end. This explains its tie-up with companies like Symbol, Wyse, Adaptec, RedHat, Hitachi Data Systems and Snap Server. Ingram is seeing good uptake from its storage business and has increasingly started seeking vendors that have high-end enterprise level products, which are not sold on the push strategy. The components business subsequently saw sluggish growth due to this change in focus.
