STRENGTHS
l Focus on enterprise can lead to increased profitability
l Bagging clients like Airport Authority of India, Director General and Rashtriya Rifles beneficial in long run
CHALLLENGES
l A regional player with minimal footprint in other cities

Having started its operations at a time when IT was booming in 1997, Delhi-based Targus Technologies has been a consistent performer. Major portion of the company's 25% increase in revenue growth has come from segments like defense, government and education.

As part of its strategy to move up the value chain, the company has been focusing on solutions-based sales approach rather than just the product sales approach for Cisco's products, radio and security and back-up solutions.

The company generated Rs 55 crore as its revenue for year 2004-05. Compared to its last year's performance of Rs 44 crore, the company has experienced 25% growth last year, which is still much lower than that in 2003-2004. Despite the sluggish growth, Targus was able to win some good customers. Some key customers were the Airports Authority of India, Director General, Rashtriya Rifles and Manpower Directorate.

In addition to this, Targus also accelerated its growth in the enterprise segment, offering its services in close co-ordination with vendors like IBM, Hewlett-Packard and Sun Microsystems as well.

Recently the company bagged a contract worth $1 million from Thales Communication. It is also an Authorized service partner for HP and IBM. In 2004, HP adjudged it as the Best Service Provider for Northern India. IBM also named it as the Best Partner in North India. Besides, it is also a Veritas Premium Partner and a Gold Business Partner of Sify.

Targus is quite meticulous when it comes to offering its services also. It guarantees a 24-hour response time and also does remote monitoring of clients' machines. Further, it gives product training to clients and has a maximum downtime of 4-6 hours.

The solution provider bagged an order from Bharti Cellular. It provided 39 servers that are fully loaded with Linux enterprise and Professional platform. Also, the SAN solutions it offers reduce the total cost of ownership with high performance and manageability.

Moving forward, the company is envisioning growth in areas of services, wireless, virtual circuits and networks in general. The company has its operations at Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh within India and Chicago in the US.
