STRENGTHS
l Started 360° HR and Allied Solutions divisions
l Started groundwork for Unisys tie-up
CHALLLENGES
l Missed out on the SMB space due to concentration on enterprise segment
l Manpower management as issue, despite having in-house recruitment agency

Last fiscal saw Allied Digital Services constantly on its toes with several new tie-ups and alliances. It started a recruitment agency, 360° HR, to deal with manpower problems. This division acts as a recruitment agency for ADS and gathers a database of candidates from various sources. This is then collated and categorized based on certain parameters. As per the project requirements, the prospects are called for interviews.

The company also started Allied Solutions in February 2004, which provided solutions around software, smart-card, RFID, CCTV, access control and automated fire alarms for the ITES segment. Allied had many customers in the BPO segment who wanted a consolidated solution, including biometrics and asset protection, which is why the company got into this segment as well.

The company tied up with LANDesk Manager for its remote management products, Notifier, which has automated fire alarm systems, GE Security and Philips Semiconductors.

Last fiscal, Allied also started the groundwork for its alliance with Xenitis for providing service to its Aamchi PC range of PCs and with Unisys for its service business in the country.

It also geared up its service network to support post-sales issues of Sahara Computers. The company invested over Rs 1.5 crore in training its manpower to handle these new alliances.

Allied has staff strength of 1,200 people of which almost 1,000 look after support and support-related issues. 80% of these are certified in specific technology areas. This is to give them core skillsets and make them specialists, rather than give them miniscule capabilities in select technologies.

Among the support staff, Allied trained approximately 155 people on Cisco, 200 on Microsoft, 264 on Dell, 25 on Solaris, eight on Oracle, 16 on HP as well some other people in EMC, Veritas, Intel, IBM and CheckPoint. These people are continuously upgraded to the next level of certification.

Facilities Management Services (FMS) coupled with ITIL-based solutions was a major thrust area for Allied. Services, which comprises enterprise management, FMS, third party maintenance, contributed 18% to overall turnover in 2004-05. The company also offer incidence-based support to Apple, IBM, HP and Dell (on behalf of Unisys) customers.

The solutions company shifted its corporate office within Mumbai to accommodate its increased staff. It also opened 10 new branch offices in the country.
