To establish itself in the retail market

Supreme Technologies is known as an established sub-distributor in Kolkata
for IT products. It has been in this industry for 12 years and has significant
expertise to gauge the nerve of the market to help it profit from the same.
To add to its existing portfolio, the sub-disty added Lexmark, Linksys,
Xerox, Epson and Philips. What is noticeable in this vendor list is that it is a
partner for three printer companies. The reason behind this was that the company
discontinued its alliance with HP, due to difference of opinion regarding
packaging and profitability issues.
Supreme Technologies is now aiming for a change in its business strategy. It
wants to identify itself as a retailer now and have only select brands for
distribution.
Just last month, the nitty-gritties of its first retail store were finalized.
It will be inaugurated soon and will be a lifestyle store, which will display
all IT lifestyle products. It has also set itself a goal as far as retailing is
concerned. By October 2006, it plans open a total of five retail outlets in
Kolkata itself.
Along with changing its image from a sub-disty to a retailer, it has also
changed its target customers. Supreme now focuses selling its products to
systems integrators (SI) and not a lot to resellers, who it used to cater to
previously. The reason behind this change is mainly because the credit limit in
case of SIs will be short, while in case of resellers it stretched to longer
periods.
When it came to opening branches in cities other than Kolkata, the company
wants to establish itself only in Kolkata and feels that opening branches in
other cities may affect its profitability. But it did recruit seven more
employees for effective functioning of the company, with more business deals
being finalized. Moving forward, Supreme would focus on its retail business and
concentrate on those products, with a good marketing operating price and have
vendor support.
