STRENGTHS
l Bagged distributorship for Samsung and Asrock products
l Started CDR manufacturing facility in Baddi
CHALLLENGES
l Inability to achieve set targets
l Diversified focus by getting into own brand of products

With an annual agency revenue of Rs 101 crore in 2004-2005, Jupiter has grown only by 3% this year, compared to its 8% growth the previous year. Frontech and Frontech Plus are the two brands owned and marketed by Jupiter International, which has its own set up of 20 branches across India and one in Taiwan. The company has a distribution setup of 1,500 dealers/distributors nationwide.

Its growth in its own branded products has also been limited. But the company made its presence felt in a distinct way.

Jupiter ventured into backward integration in 2005. It set up a manufacturing unit of CDRs in Baddi with technical collaboration with Singulus Technologies Ag, Germany. With this venture, the company aims to provide highest quality optical media products to the Indian market, which is otherwise, being fed by low-end imports from China in a significant way. The CDRs produced at the plant in Baddi are being marketed in India under the brand name Frontech and Frontech Plus for the premium end.

The equipment and technology supplied by Singulus has enabled the company to produce CDRs that are at par with international standards at Indian prices. In its first phase, the company planned to market 40 million CDRs in India apart from exporting to selective Business Alliances in West Asia, East Europe, South Asia and Africa.

In the second phase that started from July 2005 the company planned to double the production capacity in the Baddi plant and additionally start manufacturing fourth generation DVDRs. Though it has failed to achieve its targets in the stipulated time frame, it justified this lapse by claiming that as new products, the most important thing is to strengthen its market base. It's already in the course of achieving its first target and the manufacture of DVDRs will start as soon as it captures extensive grip of the market.

Apart from this, other significant developed of Jupiter International has been its appointment as exclusive distributors by Samsung (Pleomax series of optical media and keyboards and FDDs), Asrock (mother board) and PC chips (motherboard). Jupiter International has aggressive plans to accelerate the growth of Pleomax optical media in the country and is targeting a market share of 35% in the branded segment by 2006-end.
